Land Investment Analysis HYBRID Course

Date: November 4 -30, 2013

Location: Anywhere with access to phone and internet

Time: Self-study, anytime with four optional instructor led phone conferences

Cost: $545 members; $695 non-members; $445 ALCs



Course Summary: Land for investment is big business. In this course, students learn to determine relevant cash flows for origination (purchase/acquisition), operation (rents, income and partial sales), and liquidation (sale/disposition). Other topics covered are: time value of money techniques to analyze cash flows, traditional indicators (ratios, cap rates, cash-on-cash) for investment analysis, and alternative investment analysis as a way to select the most appropriate two acquisition techniques.


*This course counts as 24 contact hours toward earning the Accredited Land Consultant designation.



Course Delivery: This course combines independent study (student's will receive a self-study manual electronically and may print a hard copy if they wish) that is done at any time and at any place with the opportunity to interact with the instructor during FOUR phone lectures held once a week. A PowerPoint will be shown as the phone lectures are being presented in real time by the instructor, Andre J. van Rensburg, ALC. Phone lectures are optional but attendance is highly suggested.

Course Exam

  • The course exam will be available after the final instructor conference call.
  • RLI staff will provide exam access information to the registered students.
  • Students will have 90 minutes in which to complete the exam
  • Students who successfully complete the exam will receive an RLI certificate of successful completion listing 16 contact hours.

Note: RLI does not issue continuing education units. Questions regarding CE credits should be directed to the organization issuing the credits i.e. a local or state board.



About the Instructor: Andre J. van Rensburg, ALC, is president of Prudential Commercial Real Estate in Jacksonville, Florida. Van Rensburg specializes in commercial real estate throughout the United States, the United Kingdom, and South Africa. He teaches land and commercial real estate practices and has been a court-appointed appraiser in South Africa. Van Rensburg is a former member of the RLI Education Task Force and was the Chair of the 2012 National Land Conference. He was awarded the 2009 and 2010 RLI Excellence in Education Awards for his outstanding instructional skills and contributions.
